CLUTCH CUPS

What is cupping therapy?

Cupping therapy is a holistic modality, a form of an alternative treatment where glass, plastic or silicone cups are placed on the skin to create vacuum suction. This technique helps release stagnation, breaks up fascial adhesions, promotes blood flow, and activates lymphatic drainage. Cupping is commonly used for muscle soreness and joint pain, digestive problems, to improve mobility, flexibility and athletic performance. It is also popular for cosmetic applications which include facial rejuvenation, body firming and toning, may help reduce the appearance of cellulite and much more!

How does cupping feel? Will it cause Bruises?

Most individuals find cupping therapy very relaxing resulting in muscle tension and pain relief. Cupping should never feel painful, but depending on individual sensitivity and the intensity of the massage, it may feel relaxing or you may experience a moderate discomfort.

The movement of the cup mimics the rolling action of deep tissue massage, where cupping treatment creates reverse or "negative" pressure by pulling skin upward. Redness of just massaged skin and feel of warmth (heat) is an indication of increased healthy blood flow to the area you cupped. If you opt for stationary massage cupping technique, you may notice round marks in the shape of your cups, commonly referred to as “hickey”. These marks are an indication that toxins and stagnation were pulled to the surface of the body, restoring flow of energy and healthy blood flow. The marks are temporary and will fade within a few days to several weeks.

When can I expect results?

In many cases, results are felt or seen after only a few cupping treatments, though many users report feeling and looking better almost immediately. With regular use, you will experience muscle tension relaxation, rejuvenation, increased energy, firmness and a more toned, healthier physique. Reduced stress, improved circulation and pain relief are just some of the many benefits you can see and feel. Remember, results are cumulative. To be effective, use regularly until optimal results are reached, follow a healthy diet, exercise and drink plenty of water.

Is cupping therapy safe?

Cupping is commonly used for the relief of pain and inflammation. It's non-invasive, cost effective, simple to use and generally safe. Please consult your physician if you are pregnant, are on blood thinners, have varicose veins or may have a medical condition.

Do not use on open wounds, fresh scars, burned or broken skin or on skin inflammations. Do not use over mouth or nose. Keep out of reach of children.

Cupping Therapy is not intended to diagnose, prevent or treat any illness, metabolic disorder, disease or health problems.

*Individual results can and will vary.

What are cupping marks?

"Cupping Marks" are not bruises. The discolouration produced after stationary cupping may be due to blood stagnation, previous injury or a buildup of lactic acid or toxins brought to the surface. Some cupping marks disappear within minutes, while others may last up to several weeks.

What are different cupping techniques?

Common Cupping Techniques include the following:

STATIONARYcupping: leave on for 3-5 minutes. You may also lift & release, rotate the cup or move side to side.

DYNAMIC cupping external glide (massage): suction the cup to target area, glide up/down or side to side.

DYNAMICcupping internal glide: suction the cup for 3-5 minutes, then perform slow active movement with cups positioned over the affected area.

FLASHcupping: suction to the target area, lift the cup up, release, reposition to next area and repeat.

SHAKING / ROTATING - move the cup side to side or rotate when in stationary position.

How can cupping help athletes

As demonstrated by Olympians, and commonly practiced by amateur and pro-athletes, Crossfit competitors, runners, swimmers, gymnasts and other athletes, cupping plays an important role in the injury prevention and recovery. Cupping for athletes enduring strenuous activities helps boost circulation, reduce muscle stiffness, improve lung capacity, increase range of motion, improve performance, endurance, agility, recovery time and so much more!

What is myofacial cupping?

Myofascial Cupping is a form of vacuum therapy that helps lift, separate and stretch connective tissue (fascia) to help break up adhesions, nourish soft tissues and improve range of motion. Myofascial cupping works to directly target restricted area by placing the cup over that area, creating negative pressure by lifting and stretching the fascia to pull fresh oxygenated and nutrient rich blood to the target area. This technique can effectively be used to improve mobility, flexibility, soften scar tissue and adhesions.
